VALUE DELIVERED
Recognized as an industry leader, EMCOR Services Scalise Industries is a mechanical services provider implementing the latest leading-edge building system solutions to its clients. Scalise was selected to complete the renovations and mechanical, electrical, and controls installations to St. Barnabas Communities in Valencia, PA.
CLIENT OBJECTIVES
The client’s top priority was to build an indoor facility that would offer year-round swimming and a functional area to residents of the St. Barnabas Communities. To fulfill this objective, Scalise’s team converted an existing outdoor pool into an enclosed swimming facility by utilizing a pre-engineered glass structure. The new structure, which totals 7,200 s.f., consists of two adjoining glass buildings housing a 36 x 69 ft. heated indoor pool and bathhouse, as well as a segregated pre-function space. Specific modifications were initiated to help the client maintain an uninterrupted facility for the residents while construction was in progress. With these installations, the client now offers a state-of-the-art recreational facility for its residents while maintaining conservative energy and cost consumption.
SOLUTIONS
Scalise Industries’ scope of work consisted of electrical, mechanical, and controls upgrades within the facility. A radiant floor heating system in the pool deck and prefunction area was installed to prevent slipping and helps supplement the heating system. A dehumidification unit was installed in a detached mechanical building that feeds underground ductwork to the pool area. There, the dehumidified water is re-circulated through the heat recovery coil back into the pool, supplying an alternate heating solution and conserving energy. The unit is equipped with a temperature, humidity, and cold surface sensor that maintains the indoor temperature at 90° and water temperature at 88°, with humidity levels not to exceed 50%. The heating and cooling system was installed and runs along the perimeter of the building through an underground distribution system. Scalise’s team equipped the pool area with 24 ft. lighting tubes. A LED lighting system, that changes colors via the control system, was installed to the top “lantern” area of the pool, creating a visually appealing aesthetic. The controls were custom designed by Scalise Industries through Delta Controls. Installing a unified control system will integrate the lighting, boiler, radiant heat control panel, two air handler control panels, and a window temperature ventilation control panel.
